This year, thousands of pilgrims will return to Rome for the Holy Week Stations of the Cross after two years of pandemic restrictions. The Stations will take place in the Colosseum, as is the tradition in the Eternal City, with unlimited seating.
The focus will be on families. This year, Pope Francis charged them to prepare the meditations for the Way of the Cross. Families associated with Catholic volunteer and aid organizations will carry the cross to each station.
The occasion celebrates the Year of the Family. The year began on March 19, 2021 to mark the fifth anniversary of the publication of the apostolic exhortation 'Amoris Laetitia'. It will conclude on June 26, 2022 with the 10th World Meeting of Families in Rome.
