After praying the Angelus in St. Peter's Square, Pope Francis addressed the people of Canada and expressed his desire to embrace the indigenous people who have been affected by the recent scandals in religious schools.
And now I am about to make a penitential pilgrimage, which I hope, with God's grace, will contribute to the journey of healing and reconciliation already undertaken.
The Pope then expressed his solidarity with countries like Ukraine that continue to face violence and conflict everyday.
And I am also always close to the martyred Ukrainian population, struck every day by a hail of missiles. How can one fail to understand that war only creates destruction and death, driving peoples apart, killing truth and dialogue?
In response to the present crisis in Sri Lanka, Pope Francis encouraged religious leaders to create forms of dialogue that are focused on serving the common good. He also called for political parties to find peaceful solutions to the crisis with a focus on protecting the rights of all people.
