The Vatican's foreign minister, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, will be responsible for representing the Pope at Queen Elizabeth II's funeral on Monday.
Born in Liverpool in 1954, he is the first Englishman to hold his position as the second highest-ranking diplomat.
Recently, he traveled with the Pope on his trip to Kazakhstan, and was also in Kyiv. In November 2021, he was in Russia, to try to improve relations between the Vatican and the Kremlin.
