Members of the Cistercians of the Common Observance met with Pope Francis during their General Chapter meeting in Rome.

He told them that to fully live their vocation it is important to live fraternity well.

During the audience, Pope Francis encouraged the monks and nuns to stay grounded in evangelical poverty, which is full of hope.

POPE FRANCIS
The essential thing is not to let the evil one steal our hope! The first thing the evil one seeks is to steal hope, so he takes it out of our hands, always.

The Cistercians of the Common Observance were founded in 1098 in France. Their name distinguishes them from the religious of the “strict observance” now known as the Trappists.
