LIVE: Pope Francis visits President and Diplomatic Body of Democratic Republic of Congo


At the Palace of the Nation, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, welcomes Pope Francis with songs and a flag ceremony.

In the gardens of the Palace, the Pope and President meet with religious and political leaders, representatives of civil society and the Diplomatic Corps.

During the meeting, both President Tshisekedi and Pope Francis address the group.

The Palace of the Nation, completed in 1961 is the official residence of the President. It was here that on June 30, 1960, the Belgian Parliament proclaimed Congo's independence.
