The film, 'The Servant,' is the story of Saint Vicenta María López, founder of the Religious of Mary Immaculate.

Don't be scared. We just want to help you. What's your name?

Barbara

Saint Vicenta's congregation welcomed women who left their villages to move to Madrid in the 19th century. Many of these women ran the risk of falling into prostitution or human trafficking.

Sometimes to save someone from the mud you have to get into the mud and you have to get dirty. Well, they were able to go out in the street in times when it was frowned upon.

These girls are no different from us. They are women looking for their place. And even though they are capable of doing many things, only the path of service can free them.

The director believes that this film highlights the important role women have in the Church.

Over the past few years, I have discovered that the Catholic Church, which unfortunately in the 19th century was not very refined and a bit out of touch, was saved by the great individuals who helped the Church do its job
And above all, the great women who have been working behind the scenes since the 19th century.

At the headquarters Saint Vicenta founded in Madrid, she offered not only lodging but also formation.

CRISTINA GONZÁLEZ
Actress, Saint Vicenta María

She would pick girls up off the street and teach them to read, add, subtract and do housework, then place them in homes and give them jobs.

Saint Vicenta, played by Christina González, and her congregation are not a thing of the past. Today, the sisters are present in 21 countries in Africa, America, Asia and Europe. Their 123 communities welcome at risk young people from all over the world.
