Pope Francis explains why he has not traveled to Argentina yet

In an interview with La Nación, Pope Francis explained that he is not refusing to travel to Argentina, but that a series of setbacks have postponed the trip. He added that he wants to go and hopes to in the future.

During the press conference on his return from his trip to Iraq, a journalist asked about the long-awaited trip to his homeland.

POPE FRANCIS
I always respond a bit ironically: I've spent 76 years in Argentina - that's enough, isn't it? But there is one thing that hasn't been said: there has been a trip to Argentina scheduled since November 2017.

In 2017, Pope Francis was scheduled to visit Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. The trip was postponed due to the end of Michelle Bachelet's presidential term.
