Created by Pope Francis in 2014 to protect victims of abuse, the Vatican Commission for the Protection of Minors has announced a new initiative.

The Commission has created a fund to help abuse victims in poor countries where the bishops' conferences may have limited money and resources.

This fund comes less than two months after Fr. Hans Zollner, one of the founding members of the Commission, resigned due to an alleged lack of clarity in decision-making and financial management.

Pope Francis requested the fund saying that in poor countries, abuse victims often “suffer in silence” due to the lack of economic resources.
