A friend of Pope Francis is one step closer to sainthood. Sister Maria Bernardetta worked closely with the Pope when he was Archbishop of Buenos Aires.

She was called the “mother of seminarians” because of her ability to connect with men studying for the priesthood who were facing difficult times.

Whenever Bergoglio had any difficulty with a seminarian, he would send him to Sister Bernardetta to lead him through moments of difficulty that it is normal to have as a young seminarian.

Her canonization process has already passed the diocesan phase. Her fellow sisters remember the final moments of her life.

At one point she said “Susanna.” “Tell me, Bernardetta, do you want something?” She said,“On the little table is the crucifix, will you give it to me?” “Yes.”
She took it. She took it and said “Jesus, hurry up, hurry up.” Those were her last words before she went into a coma.

Sister Maria Bernardetta died after receiving the sacrament of the anointing of the sick from the Archbishop of Buenos Aires...the future Pope Francis.
