Cardinal Zuppi—the head of the Vatican's peace mission to Ukraine—met with President Zelensky in Kyiv. Together, they spoke about how to build peace.
On his social media, President Zelensky said the two discussed humanitarian aid and the country's peace proposal. He called for joint efforts to put pressure on Russia.
While the Ukrainian President said he appreciates 'the efforts of other states and partners to find ways to peace,' he stressed that, as the war happens on their territory, Ukrainians should have the final say on the terms of a treaty.
The Vatican Press Office said all details of the meeting will be relayed to Pope Francis to help frame the necessary steps for lasting peace.
