This was the statue of the Madonna del Parto or Madonna of Childbirth before its incredible restoration. FLASH And this is how it looked afterwards.

It was the most venerated image of the Renaissance in the center of Rome. And it is the only one that continues to be venerated today. This 6 foot tall statue is on display in the Basilica of Sant'Agostino in Campo Marzio after 6 months of extensive restoration.

The challenge was to be able to identify and, in some cases, remove the strong brown stains on the sculpture, which made it difficult to properly appreciate the work.

At the beginning of the project, the sculpture was extremely deteriorated. The entire first month was spent thoroughly analyzing the best way to begin the work.

We have great satisfaction in achieving a goal with methods that are innovative, eco-friendly and sustainable.

We repaired it with the help of bacteria, which ate the organic substances and brought the sculpture back to its original color and clarity.

The Madonna of Childbirth is located at the entrance to the Basilica on the left hand side. The Basilica houses another treasure of the Eternal City: this Caravaggio, the Madonna of Loreto, which can be visited free of charge.
