Nearly 4,000 civilians have been kidnapped in Nigeria since May of 2023, according to SBM Intelligence. These kidnappings have included families, children and members of the Church. Early this month, two religious were abducted by armed men and released a few days later.

This ongoing situation in Nigeria has garnered the attention of the Vatican. Cardinal Antonio Tagle of the Dicastery for Evangalization sent a message to the President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria. The message expresses solidarity with the Nigerian people and calls for action, saying:

We call on the government of Nigeria to act swiftly to address this threat and stop the ongoing crisis.

The message also emphasizes the thoughts and prayers that are being sent for the innocent victims of kidnappings and their families.
