On the second Sunday of Easter, Pope Francis greeted the faithful celebrating Divine Mercy Sunday in St. Peter's Square. The Pope took the opportunity to invite everyone present to “let themselves be found” by that mercy that leads to hope.

POPE FRANCIS
To seek Jesus, to allow ourselves to be encountered—because He seeks us—to open our hearts to encounter Jesus.

After praying the Regina Caeli—a Marian prayer used during the Easter season—the Pope remembered 45 people killed when their vehicle lost control on an Easter pilgrimage in South Africa. The only survivor was an 8-year-old girl.

POPE FRANCIS
I would like to remember the people who died in the accident when a bus went off the road in South Africa a few days ago. Let us pray for them and their families.

Pope Francis reiterated his call for peace in Ukraine and Gaza. He also sent greetings to the participants of the International Conference for the Abolition of Surrogate Motherhood, which took place in Rome on April 5 and 6.

On several occasions, the Pope has spoken out against surrogacy. During a meeting with diplomats in January, he called it a “deplorable practice” that turns both mother and child into a commodity.
