One diocese in Western Australia has received approval by the country's bishops' conference to use a new liturgy titled the “Mass of the Land of the Holy Spirit.”

It was approved in the Diocese of Broome to be used for the Aboriginal peoples.

The Mass has already been celebrated “ad experimentum” in the Diocese of Broome for over 50 years. It includes elements of Aboriginal language and culture.

The liturgy will be submitted to the Vatican Dicastery for Divine Worship for official recognition.

The question of how to celebrate Mass in indigenous regions has been a topic of discussion in Rome. It was highly discussed at Synod on the Pan-Amazon Region in 2019.
