Papua New Guinea's Sir John Guise Stadium was filled with young people for the final public papal event in the country.
Three young people from the country's Catholic youth group shared their stories with Pope Francis. Two described the effects of families breaking down.
We all came from families which were meant to shape and mold us into our future selves. How is it possible today when one of the issues that has been affecting young people and our society is abuse in the family?
In his speech, the Pope responded by once again praising the impact the elderly can have on young people.
POPE FRANCIS
There is an important relationship in the life of young people. The closeness with grandparents and the elderly. Do you agree?
-Yes!
Let's say this all together: Long live grandparents.
-Long live grandparents!
Thank you very much.
And reflecting on the fact that the country has more than 800 language for various ethnic groups, Pope Francis offered a solution, saying young people must respond with love—the language that unites.
He closed this event asking for prayers, as he often does. But this time, he gave the young people of Papua New Guinea a reason for these prayers.
POPE FRANCIS
I pray for you. I pray for you. And don’t forget to pray for me because this job is not easy. Thank you very much for your presence. Thank you very much for your hope.
The Pope then headed to the airport to take his flight to his next stop on this 4 country tour: East Timor.
