Two days after his death, Pope Francis' body bid farewell to his residence of 12 years.
The Cardinal Camerlengo presided over what is known as the "Rite of Translation". The Pope's coffin left in procession from Casa Santa Marta, accompanied by a cardinals and other associates.
It passed through St. Peter's Square, where thousands of faithful awaited to see him for the last time in the place that was the scene of some of Pope Francis's greatest moments.
Solemnly, the Pope's remains entered St. Peter's Basilica for the last time.
After a brief ceremony, senior Curia officials, cardinals, and Vatican staff approached one by one to pay their respects to the Pope and bid him a final farewell.
