Civil and religious authorities in Rome have made an assessment of the 2025 Jubilee Year, which saw over 33 million pilgrims from 185 countries arrive in the Eternal City. The authorities were particularly grateful they succeeded in hosting 35 major events this year with no serious incidents or accidents to report.
During a recent press conference, the Vatican official responsible for the Jubilee, Monsignor Fisichella, expressed great satisfaction.
MONS. RINO FISICHELLA
The forecast of 31,700,000, made before the start of the Holy Year, has been largely exceeded.
The flow of pilgrims to Rome peaked in May, with the Conclave and the election of Pope Leo. Italians naturally topped the pilgrim attendance chart. Unsurprisingly, the second highest number of pilgrims came from the United States of America.
The most significant aspect was of course the spiritual impact the Jubilee had on everyone involved.
MONS. RINO FISICHELLA
The papal basilicas, other prayer centers, such as the Holy Stairs, have recorded attendance never seen before. Confessions have increased, and the Jubilee celebration of full forgiveness, of indulgence, has reached everyone.
Throughout the Jubilee of Youth, the Sacrament of Confession was offered at the Circus Maximus, the site of Christian martyrdom during the early Church. Even the civil authorities were moved by this event.
LAMBERTO GIANNINI
What was the Circus Maximus, I hope that all of you had the opportunity to go, see those young people who were doing the confessions—the atmosphere that was felt. I think it was something unique that will remain engraved in everyone's eyes.
The Jubilee of Youth was one of the most powerful events of the year. With the conclusion of this past holy year, the City of Rome now turns its attention to the Jubilee of 2033—the 2,000 year anniversary of the death and Resurrection of Christ.
