With exactly one year to go until World Youth Day in Seoul, the organizers have revealed the official anthem.
Its title comes from the theme of the Day, taken from the Gospel of John: “Take courage. I have overcome the world.” In Latin, the phrase is Confidite, ego vici mundum.
The song is primarily in Korean, but it also includes parts in English, Italian, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
The producers presented two versions: a more traditional arrangement with an orchestra, and a fresher, more accessible pop-style version.
The song was written by Korean composer Francis Jiyoon Kim. It was selected from 434 entries submitted for the contest, including 41 artists from South Korea, where the World Youth Day will be held. During the anthem’s presentation, Kim said he hopes young people will come “to Seoul with enthusiasm and experience God’s love.”
