Pope Francis finishes his Lenten Spiritual Exercises. This year, he did not travel with the Roman Curia members to a retreat house outside Rome, potentially due to his knee problems. Instead, he made the retreat in the Vatican. The Pope also instructed the Curia members to make the retreat on their own.
As is tradition, the retreat was from the first Sunday after Ash Wednesday to the following Friday. This year, it was February 26 to March 3. Pope Francis will resume his public activities beginning with the Angelus on Sunday, March 5.
While the Pope's ongoing knee problems may have been the reason for not traveling outside Rome for the retreat, it will not prevent him from continuing his apostolic journeys as he will travel to Hungary from April 28 through 30.
