Opus Dei has revised and modified its statutes, as Pope Francis had requested in 2022.
The new text is already in the Holy See for revision, and the prelate, Fernando Ocáriz, has sent a message to the faithful of Opes Dei to inform them of the fact.
Over the past three years, the Argentinian pontiff had made some changes in order to further strengthen the role of the priests of this prelature. With the proposal that Opus Dei has left to the Holy See, it is a matter of adapting this institution to the requests made by Pope Francis and that Pope Leo XIV will now have to review.
Opus Dei is a young institution in the Catholic Church. It was founded in 1928 by St. Josemaría Escrivá and is present in almost 70 countries around the world. Approximately 93,000 people are members of Opus Dei, of which, more than 90% are lay people.
