More than 30 years ago, a trip changed the life of an Italian married couple. What started out as a vacation in Malawi ended up becoming the ONLUS AMAS association.

This association was born, first and foremost at the parish level, because it was our desire, mine and my husband's, to do something for Third World children.
Since then, they have dug wells and built schools, outpatient clinics for mothers, hospitals, religious houses as well as boarding schools. But why Malawi?

One of our parish priests, Fr. Aldo Bolis, went on his first mission and brought back a photo of a little girl who could be sponsored; almost adopted from afar. This girl was sponsored by our parish chapel, but tragically died several years later. This motivated us to help many other children who were in difficult situations.
Behind every project is a personal story, such as that of Nicholas.

At first, we helped him so he could go to school. Later, he wanted to become a priest, but then he met a girl, changed his mind, and got married. Now he’s a family man. It was a wonderful experience because he was able to go to school, and he’s currently the assistant principal of a school. He’s a very intelligent young man.
This couple's mission has even been passed down to their daughters. Although the founder's husband has passed away. the legacy they built together continues, reaching even their grandchildren.

The enthusiasm that our grandparents passed on, to me and then to my husband, has been passed on to our children as well. It's something that... it's as if there's an invisible thread connecting our lives.
An initiative born from an Italian couple, which continues to write new chapters in Malawi today... and also within their own family as well.
