Six months after his election, Portuguese President António José Seguro met with Pope Leo XIV for 40 minutes at the Apostolic Palace.
The talks focused on Portugal’s socioeconomic development and promoting the common good.
The president, accompanied by his wife, renewed an invitation, according to Portuguese media, for Pope Leo to visit the country in 2027.
The possible visit would mark the 500th anniversary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Lisbon and the 110th anniversary of Fátima.
In the meeting, the president gave the pope a cross of the portuguese artist Álvaro Siza Vieira, who also inaugurated a new sculture in the Vatican Gardens.
