Pope sends condolences for victims of Turkish cargo jet crash

January 16, 2017. On Monday morning, a Turkish cargo plane has tragically crashed in Kyrgyzstan, killing dozens and hospitalizing many others. Many homes and vehicles in the small village are also destroyed. As a result, Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin has sent a message of condolences to the victims of the disaster on behalf of Pope Francis.

The Vatican prepares for Palm Sunday Mass in St. Peter's Square

(VIDEO ONLY) Workers prepare St. Peter's Square for the Palm Sunday Mass that Pope Francis will preside over. 

The ceremony will begin with the blessing of palms and olive branches and a procession led by the Pope. Following tradition, the central palm beside the obelisk will come from Elche, Spain. Two thousand palms from northern Italy will be used in the celebration.
