Before dozens of representatives at Caritas, a Catholic Italian relief service, the Pope said it is necessary to teach a global culture centered on brotherhood and unity.
"We must promote a respectful and fraternal encounter between cultures and
civilizations; and teach people to care for creation and an ‘integral ecology’.”
The Pope insisted that the phenomenon of migration can be enriching if it is approached from a more positive outlook.
"The phenomenon of migration, which today presents critical aspects that must be managed with organized and long-term policies, is always an asset and a resource, under different points of view."
The president of Caritas in Italy is Cardinal Francesco Montenegro. His diocese covers the island of Lampedusa, one of the most critical locations of the crisis for refugees and immigrants in Europe.
