It is said that hope is the last thing you lose. But... What if you've already lost everything? The earthquake victims in Italy that have survived have been left homeless and without a family. A situation that no one is prepared to experience.

These three friars: Fabio, Gaetano, and Antimo, from the Convent of Eremo San Francesco in the town of Rotella, came to a makeshift camp in Pescara del Tronto and were among the first to help and give hope to all people who are experiencing one of the worst moments of their lives.

FABIO TROBBIANI
Friar, Convent Eremo San Francesco, Rotella
'After a tragedy like this religion helps bring people together. We are close to the victims not only spiritually because not all of them believe, but humanely. We try to comfort them by giving them hope. We also brought toys for the children.

These friars know that listening to the harsh and sad stories of all that want to be heard is part of their mission.

'We will move forward. All of my brother's children have died, everyone is dead ... His wife. They still have not found my grandson, they were living in Amatrice.

Among the three of them, the friars want the elderly and the youth to find a way to move forward after this tragedy.

ANTIMO MIGLIACIO
Friar, Convent Eremo San Francesco, Rotella
'Not only for the sake of religion, it is wonderful to be able to give these people hope, especially to these children. They need both and should be able to move forward. We are here to encourage them and to help them find a reason to go on. They know they are not alone.

Eventually, houses will be rebuilt, but in situations like these material damages are insignificant. These are the type of open wounds that no amount of money could ever fully heal. In such circumstances, the aid of these friars is more than welcome.
