Late Wednesday afternoon, the bishops from Chile headed to the Vatican for a second encounter with the pope.

They left their residence like this.

“Good afternoon, we have to go.”

“In good spirits. Many thanks.”

“I meditated at length on the paper the pope sent us.”

“Good spirits.”

There are no images of the encounter with the pope. This photograph is from the meeting on Tuesday, the 15th. There, the pope gave them a text on which to meditate and pray.

The 34 bishops are scheduled to hold two more encounters with the pope this Thursday. Together, they're looking for a way forward from the crisis triggered by mismanagement of abuses committed by the priest Fernando Karadima.
