Pope to close Amazon synod Sunday in St. Peter's
Pope Francis will officially end the Synod on the Amazon, with a Mass in St. Peter's Basilica at 10 a.m., local time. Synod fathers and indigenous, who had participated in the three weeks of meeting at the Vatican will participate.
In this way, the whole assembly which began Oct. 6 will conclude. The theme was, “Amazonia: New paths for the Church and for an integral ecology.”
The pope convened this Synod on Oct. 15, 2017. He said the objective was “to find new paths for evangelization... in particular with indigenous people, who are often forgotten and without perspective of a serene future. Also because of the crisis in the Amazon forest, a lung of fundamental importance for our planet.”
