At the start of Mass at Casa Santa Marta, Pope Francis asked to pray for peace within families during this time of quarantine.

POPE FRANCIS
The family, locked up at home, tries to do many new things, with a lot of creativity with the children—with everyone—to keep moving forward. Then there is another thing: that sometimes there is domestic violence. Let us pray for families, so they can persevere in peace, with creativity and patience, during this quarantine.

According to the UN, the number of calls to domestic abuse hotlines has doubled since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in places like Libya and Malaysia. In China, this number has tripled.
