Bolivian bishop dies of the coronavirus

On Wednesday, the Bishop of El Alto died in Bolivia, after testing positive for the coronavirus and suffering two cardiac arrests.

Eugenio Scarpellini was Italian, 66 years old and spent 32 years of his life in Bolivia.

He accompanied Pope Francis when he visited Bolivia in July 2015.

In 2017, he attended the inauguration of the mosaic of the patron saint of Bolivia, Our Lady of Copacabana, in the Vatican gardens.

In Bolivia, more than 50,800 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed, of which almost 2,000 people have died.
