Vatican suggests Pope Francis and Benedict XVI received third dose of Covid vaccine

The Vatican has stated that it began rolling out the third dose of the Covid vaccine to those over 60. Sources close to the Holy See press office suggest that Pope Francis and Pope emeritus Benedict XVI have already received them.

Both received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine earlier this year. And Pope Francis has been a strong advocate of Covid vaccines from the beginning.

"Getting vaccinated is a simple yet profound way to care for one another, especially the most vulnerable. I pray to God that each one of us can do his or her small part."

The Vatican also distributed first and second doses to the homeless and marginalized when they first became available in early 2021.

The Holy See decreed that all Vatican employees must be fully vaccinated in order to continue working inside the Vatican.

For example, three members of the Swiss Guard chose to leave the force instead of getting the vaccine, and another three were temporarily suspended until they complete the vaccination process.
