Holy Land churches condemn Israel for violence at journalist's funeral

Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Pierbattista Pizzaballa has condemned Israel's 'disproportionate use of force' during the funeral of Al Jazeera reporter, Shireen Abu Akleh.

Israeli police forces used batons and stun grenades to prevent the Palestinian crowd from carrying the coffin on their shoulders, as is tradition, from the hospital to a nearby Catholic Church in Jerusalem's Old City.

Shireen Abu Akleh, a dual Palestinian-US citizen, Catholic and journalist who had worked for Al Jazeera for more than 20 years, was shot dead while covering an Israeli raid in the West Bank, wearing a regulation vest marked 'Press'.
