Pope Francis praises Gorbachev's “far-sighted commitment to concord and brotherhood”

Following the death of Mikhail Gorbachev, Pope Francis sent a telegram to Gorbachev's daughter offering his prayers and condolences. The Pope expressed his spiritual closeness to the family during this difficult time.

In the telegram, Pope Francis expressed his gratitude for Gorbachev's “far-sighted commitment to concord and brotherhood” and his focus on progress in both his own country and the world. 

The Pope ended the telegram offering his prayers interceding for the last president of the Soviet Union.
