In the first Sunday Angelus after his trip to Spain, Pope Leo XIV thanked the country for its great hospitality during his three stops: Madrid, Barcelona, and the Canary Islands.
POPE LEO XIV
I thank the Spanish people, who welcomed me with great enthusiasm and devotion. I am especially grateful to His Majesty the King. I also warmly thank the bishops, all the communities I visited, and the entire Church in Spain. May God always bless Spain.
King Felipe VI had offered the pope his private aircraft after it was discovered that the Iberia plane that was supposed to fly Pope Leo home had an engine malfunction.
At the Angelus, the pope also greeted groups of pilgrims from different parts of the United States.
POPE LEO XIV
I greet all the pilgrims from the United States of America, especially the faithful from New Jersey and the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart in Miami, Florida.
Pope Leo XIV also prayed for the victims of an earthquake in the Philippines, which killed dozens of people and injured over a hundred more.
