This is the moment Pope Leo XIV blessed the coffin of Cardinal Camillo Ruini, one of the most influential figures of the Catholic Church in Italy. He served as vicar general of the Diocese of Rome and president of the Italian Episcopal Conference between 1991 and 2007.
After a Mass at St. Peter's Basilica, Pope Leo XIV performed the rite of final commendation and farewell for Cardinal Ruini. Following a prayer in Latin, he blessed the coffin by sprinkling it with holy water on all sides. He then incensed it as a final gesture of honor and prayer for the deceased episcopal servant of the Church.
