Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, lamented the tragic situation in southern Israel in the wake of the latest outbreak of violence.
He called for everyone involved to use reason to make peace possible in this region.

War is always the defeat of dignity and an occasion for not reaching any solution. Unfortunately terrorism, violence, barbarism and extremism undermine the legitimate aspiration of Palestinians and Israeli. I hope that the weapons will be silenced and reason will prevail and be used to pause and reflect on the right way to achieve peace in Israel and Palestine.
With these words, the Vatican Secretary of State began his lecture at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Cardinal Parolin was attending a conference on the documents of the pontificate of Pius XII and their significance for Jewish-Christian relations.
