In my country, Venezuelan people are proclaiming...

'Venezuela. El pueblo, el canto, el trabajo' is the name of an initiative seeking to promote the culture of work in a country in a serious crisis.

AQUILES BÁEZ
Venezuelan Musician

I think it's a wonderful project that connects us with our sense of identity that is so strong. It is an identity with a powerful force and that connects us.”

This CD-book contains a compilation of traditional songs typically sung by Venezuelan land workers. It was produced by “Trabajo y Persona”, a Non-Profit Civil Association. It was founded 10 years ago and its mission is to recover the dignity of the person through education for work.

The project was presented at the 2019 Rimini Meeting. It brought together 30 different artists who wish to show there are still points of encounter in Venezuela.

JOSÉ FRANCISCO SÁNCHEZ
Venezuelan Musician

“It's been a beautiful experience. In fact, the idea to launch this project occurred to us last year at the Rimini Meeting, when “Trabajo and Persona”, the friends of Itaca and several allies decided to bet on this dream. We wanted to promote the beauty of the Venezuelan working songs; and as a meeting point for so many people both inside and outside Venezuela.”

'La flor del cacao' highlights one of the 14 themes of this work. This Venezuelan tune was used to begin and end the 40th Rimini Meeting.

However, not only this.

These Venezuelan musicians performed together to get the attendees to dance at the Rimini Meeting. The concert ended with the rhythm of the traditional tambourines. The event was filled with a lot of joy.

JOSÉ FRANCISCO SÁNCHEZ
Venezuelan Musician

“To see the people chanting and to hear them singing this song at the Meeting is very emotional. The big question I ask myself is what makes a person move?”

They also wanted to share their rhythm with those living on the peripheries. The musical group performed Venezuelan music to the inmates of Padua Prison. It was in collaboration with the Giotto Social Cooperative who promote work in this center.

There, they brought a moment of hope to these prisoners, many of them Latin Americans; and reminded them of home.

ALEJANDRO MARIUS
President “Trabajo y persona”
“To continue betting on our country, Venezuela, is to bet on the person.”

The singing of songs helps one to participate in peoples' hopes and sufferings that often mark life. For this reason, the profits made with this CD-book will be used to help the population of Venezuela.
