The pope met with participants of a meeting organized by Argentina's Institute for Interreligious Dialogue.

It is a committee working to promote the document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together. The text was signed by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar last February in the United Arab Emirates.

During his address, the pope repeated that interreligious dialogue is a concrete and effective response against emerging violence.

POPE FRANCIS
There is no alternative: either we build the future together or there will be no future. Religions, in a special way, cannot renounce the urgent task of building bridges between peoples and cultures. The world is watching us, the faithful, to prove our attitude toward the common home and human rights.

Argentina's Institute for Interreligious Dialogue was created in 2002 and promoted by then-Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio. It is comprised primarily of Jews, Christians and Muslims. Even then, the pope had begun taking unprecedented action in his country. For example, he was the first archbishop of Buenos Aires to visit Argentina's Islamic Center.
