President Joe Biden will meet with Pope Francis for the first time during his presidency on Oct. 29.

According to the White House, the President of the United States will be accompanied by First Lady Jill Biden during his visit to the Vatican.

The press statement says the Pope and the President will discuss “working together on efforts grounded in respect for fundamental human dignity, including ending the COVID-19 pandemic, tackling the climate crisis, and caring for the poor.”

It will not be the first time Joe Biden visits the Vatican.

When he was Vice President, he attended the inaugural Mass of Pope Francis' pontificate.

And he was present during the Pope's visit to the Capitol.

In 2016, President Biden participated in a Vatican event against cancer.

In their first telephone conversation after Biden was elected president, he assured Pope Francis of his desire to collaborate on issues including “caring for the marginalized and the poor, addressing the crisis of climate change, and welcoming and integrating immigrants and refugees.”
