Pope at Mass with homeless: As progress increases, exclusion increases

Pope Francis wanted to send a strong message to the culture of indifference with the last special event of the jubilee.

The majestic St. Peter's basilica was filled with thousands of homeless, jobless and marginalized people. Those who live on the street, sleeping on old cardboard boxes.

POPE FRANCIS
'It is ominous that we are growing used to this rejection. We should be worried when our consciences are anaesthetized and we no longer see the brother or sister suffering at our side, or notice the grave problems in our world, which become a mere familiar refrain from the headlines on the evening news.

The pope pointed out that the culture of welfare has been degraded. Now, only personal well-being is sought, instead of that of the others, and the consequences are painful.

POPE FRANCIS
'Thus is born the tragic contradiction of our time. The more progress and possibilities increase, which is good, there are more people who cannot access them. It is a great injustice to worry about. There is no peace in the house of those who are well when justice is lacking in everyone's house. '

During the jubilee, the pope has held special jubilee meetings with young people, catechists, priests, refugees, the sick ... Before the closing of the Holy Year, he wanted the last one to be for the homeless and the marginalized. He has put them in the limelight to remove any stigmas that could be associated with them.
