I would like the Holy Father to always remain so determined to support Ukraine.

Sadovy has been working on the project, “Unbroken.” The goal is to build Europe's largest rehabilitation center for wounded soldiers and children. The city will become a hub for rehabilitation. He believes Pope Francis' support for the country is an important part of this project.

I hope that the Holy Father will always be with us and with this act of kindness, together we will win.

Dr. Oleg Samchuk accompanied the mayor to Rome to share the message of “Unbroken.” Their goal is to rebuild the Ukrainian hospital system and give people access to prosthetics and care. This is the message they shared with Pope Francis after the General Audience.

Sadovy says the Pope gave his blessing to the project. He is convinced that Pope Francis understands the situation people face in Ukraine. And the mayor wants to make sure the Pope continues to get the right information.

At the moment, we understand that there is Russian propaganda throughout Europe.
That is why, we are so keen to have direct meetings with the Holy Father. So that he hears the truth of what is happening from us.

Sadovy brought with him to Rome a cross with fragments of a Russian missile. He believes Pope Francis will see the cross as a reminder of the many injured children in Ukraine.

To help the 200 children who come from around Ukraine to hospitals to receive care, the mayor hopes to build a center specifically for injured patients as well as two hospitals in 2023—one for adults and one for children.
