The King and Queen of England met with the Pope on two separate occasions. First, in a private meeting at the Apostolic Palace, where they spoke for about 45 minutes.
The second part took place in the Sistine Chapel, where the Christian leaders — one Catholic and one Anglican — prayed together. This had not happened in 500 years.
Both events left behind images such as these: the greeting between the Pope and the Anglican Archbishop of York, the entrance into the Sistine Chapel, and the farewell between the two heads of state.
