December 17 is remembered by many of the faithful, and in case the date doesn't ring any bells, it's the day on which Pope Francis would have turned 89 years old.
It is the first year without his presence, but the faithful continue to show their affection for the Argentinian pontiff. For example, this is how his tomb at Saint Mary Major looked even after six months had passed since his death, and even today, long lines of pilgrims are waiting to be able to visit his place of eternal rest.
If we look back, we have images like this one: a moment before the Mother Teresa Award was presented in 2022, when Pope Francis received bouquets of sunflowers from the Missionaries of Charity.
As was his way, Pope Francis showed his closest and most warmest side with children who, one day after his birthday, brought him a cake, sang “Happy Birthday,” and celebrated with the pontiff in a very special way.
FRANCISCO
And now, take a little icing, take it, take it and into your mouth. Is it good? Go ahead, take yours. That’s it—do you like it?
These are just some images of how December 17 used to be experienced in the Vatican. This year will be the first in which the faithful celebrate with solemn prayer and remembrance.
