Pope to World Bank and IMF: Solidarity means more than sporadic acts of generosity

Pope Francis addressed a letter to participants of the 2021 Spring Meeting of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.

He called for a global recovery plan that responds to the Covid-19 pandemic while giving poorer and less developed nations access to the international market.

The pope said that “a commitment to economic, financial and social solidarity” is “much more than engaging in sporadic acts of generosity.” He explained that “it means thinking and acting in terms of community.

The virtual conference this year covers issues like debt and economic recovery.
