Franciscan Friars beat box, sing and show-off their basketball skills, all in the name of charity

They are not your typical community of Franciscan Friars.  In fact, these Friars from Yonkers, New York have become an internet sensation after a video of them showcasing their incredible beat-box, singing and basketball skills has gone viral.  BR. MARK-MARY AMES Franciscan Friars of the Renewal "I guess by day two, like the second day, it had like 130,000 views, just in that day. By day ten we over half a million views on Facebook. So, I guess we tapped into something.â? They are known as the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and their mission is simple; they want to share their message of peace with everyone while staying rooted to the service of giving to the poor. BR. MARK-MARY AMES Franciscan Friars of the Renewal "I kind of has this idea of using this basketball video to get peoples attention and once I have their attention, to preach the good news of Jesus Christ but also, which goes hand and hand, with preaching the needs of the poor because Jesus choose to identify with the poor.â? The Renewal friars have teamed up with Mary's Meals, an international charitable organization that is owned and run by community volunteers in different parts of the world. The volunteers take turns to prepare, cook and serve the meals to children in the most impoverished schools. BR. MARK-MARY AMES Franciscan Friars of the Renewal "What I love about Mary's Meals are a couple of things. First of all, the idea is perfect. It's so simple. For a little less than 20 dollars, you are able to provide a nutritious meal for a child in their place of education for an entire year.â? This viral video has certainly helped bring awareness to a notable charitable organization. It has also served as a springboard in attracting young people who have a desire to work closely within their own communities. BR. MARK-MARY AMES Franciscan Friars of the Renewal "I really hope that our audience, especially the young audience, when they watch the video. They see that and that resonates with them. Okay, maybe following Jesus doesn't mean I have to be miserable, maybe I'll give it a shot.â?  The Renewal Friars hope to further encourage and spread their positive message to anyone that is willing to listen. As of right now, they seem have scored a slam dunk with the tremendous success they are having with promoting their message. YA Franciscan Friars of the Renewal SV - PR Up:YA
